DAY TWO - Sunday 6/19
Sunday morning around 8:30 we headed out from Amarillo to get the second day of the adventure started - 276 miles on the route today

our first stop was at the Midpoint Cafe on Route 66, Adrian, TX
1,139 miles to either end of Rt66

Doug set the camera timer and RAN across the street to get in the photo

gathering for the group photopeople grabbing CTV Cruiser photos

the lady that worked in the Sunflower Station was the voice of Flo from Disney's movie Cars ...she was handing out autographed postcards

...so, what do you do with a Ford that doesn't run, you put it out for everyone to put their autograph on when they stop by

...time to head on down the highway

moving west on I-40 until we came to Tucumcari, NM, where we exited I-40 to enjoy a little more Rt66

Santa Rosa, NM was our next detour from
I-40 to to Rt66

...our second Focal Stop for Day 2

We enjoyed a Rt 66 Auto Museum prior to lunch

an old taxi outsidetheir version of Mater ...similar to the one in Cars - maybe an older brother

inside, there was a place to sit after enjoying the museum

how do you make an Edsel better?

it sure wasn't making it a backhoe

...you have to park Corvettes beside it

a Route 66 map on the wall

how about a '57 Chevy love seat?

...seemed like the perfect place for couple's photos

the '57 front end was their cash register

lots of memorabilia of all kinds could be found in here

They had four Corvettes in the museum - the original '54 was the oldest

 ...hey Mary, it's for you

A few additional photos (31) at the Museum

time to head on down Route 66 - still in Santa Rosa

...an old Cadillac cruisin down the street

...more route 66 buildings - they are much better preserved than ones in Amarillo

Lunch Reservations were in Santa Rosa, NM

Our lunch reservations were at the Comet II in a historic Route 66 building

Cruisin' on down the road
westward to Hwy 285, where we turned and headed north towards Santa Fe, NM
our day 2 destination

We arrived in Santa Fe, NM

Once in Santa Fe, we enjoyed visiting the Loretta Chapel - an 1878 Chapel.

Today, it is only used for Weddings and special occasions

...the original staircase to reach the choir loft 22' above included two 360 turns.  It had no visible means of support, no handrails, etc.  Also, mysterious carpenter who designed and built the staircase was never found again - a total mystery

over the years, handrails and a few support brackets had been added

our lodging for the night, the El Rey Inn

This was a historic Route 66 Motel originally - it has since been expanded (same look)

These were part of the 1936 Inn shows the original 12 rooms that the Inn had back in the day.  In 1994 it expanded to 21 rooms.  It currently has 86 rooms and sits on 5 acres.

Great rooms (left)

patio for visiting (right)

...lots of gardens and flowers around the motel

Dinner Reservations
Tonight we enjoyed dinner at the 2nd Street Brewery - a few blocks away from the Inn

...and WOW - The Original Alien Burger was GREAT!!!

All-natural Angus patty topped with an organic blue corn dusted relleno, chile-jack cheese, smoked bacon, stout queso, Hatch green chile, crispy fried onions, guacamole, chipotle mayo - with beer battered onion rings on the side
