...our first stop was
Grapetown, TX, a ghost town, just 13 miles from
the hotel |
The town dates from 1848 when one John
Hemphill settled alongside the Fredericksburg-San Antonio
road. Six years later he was joined by eight other settlers.
This loosely-knit community took its first step toward
becoming a town when Friedrich Wilhelm Doebbler opened his
Doebbler's Inn hostelry in 1860.

ghost town to visit today |
...at noon, a benefit for the
Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston was
being held - lots going on today |
we talked a passer by from Alaska to take a group photo by
the old Post Office for us - the cameras
just kept coming |
...the post office is now the general store
where you will find a little of everything - and
everybody is somebody in Luckenbach |
the back half of the general store serves refreshments |

...our Sunday lunch was at the Feed

nailed to the outside of the building, they fix it and you
take it over to the outdoor picnic tables |
