Howdy Cowtown,

I hope this letter finds you revving your engines and enjoying the open road.

As you all know, Cowtown Vettes Club is a fantastic organization, and we’re always looking for ways to make it even better. To keep our club running smoothly and efficiently, we need some dedicated volunteers to fill some key roles. As you know, we have been blessed to have outstanding club officers and chairs to keep our club active and moving in the right direction.

We are on the hunt for:

Officers:  President / Vice President / Secretary / Treasurer / Board Members and Committee Chairs.

If you are passionate about our club and want to make a difference, we’d love to have you join our team. We promise there will be plenty of fun, laughter, and maybe even a few surprises along the way.

So, who’s ready to step up to the plate and help us keep the Cowtown Vettes Club roaring?  We need your skills, enthusiasm, and your love for all things Corvette! If you are interested in volunteering, please let it be known.

Let's keep the rubber side down and the good times rolling -

LowDown Article

October 2024

Well, finally September has chosen to bless us with cooler temperatures and a bit of rain after some very warm days.  Hopefully we will be able to continue enjoying this weather as we proceed into fall, with the leaves changing colors (as much as they do in Texas) and pleasant temperatures for our upcoming events in October.

OCTOBER

Once again, October is going to be a very busy month for Cowtown.  Since Robert Geyer, Cruiser Chairperson, has a Cruise to Canton planned for October 4, I am choosing not to add anything else to our schedule for this month.  October 12 is the Brazos River Corvette Club Car Show on the town square in Granbury.  This is always a fun time with great restaurants and shopping on the square as well as a competitive judged car show to show off your “cleaned up and blinged out” Corvette.  This can be your “practice run” heading into Cowtown’s 22nd Annual Corvette Show with will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 in the northeastern parking lot at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth.  We will close out the month  on Saturday, October 26 with our 50th Anniversary photo shoot at the Railroaders Stadium in Cleburne.  If you haven’t had a chance to sign up, please do so. We would love to have a great showing for this historic picture.  It will be such a nice addition both in our historic LowDown edition as well as on the cover of Blue Bars next spring.

SO SIGN UP TO BE THERE!!!

NOVEMBER

We are looking forward on November 2 to our “Hanging at the Hanger” party out at the Currey’s hanger at Hicks Field with lunch at the Wing It Cafe.  We will then head back to the hanger to enjoy a little dessert, see what Larry has going on at the hanger and just enjoy some visiting with your fellow club members.  There will be a sign up sheet for this event at the October membership meeting.

DECEMBER

December will round out my time as club VP/Socials with our annual Christmas party/Awards celebration on December 7, from 12 noon to 4pm at Los Vaqueros Restaurant in the Fort Worth Stockyards.  Currently Los Vaqueros is still operating in their “old” location, but anticipate being moved to the new location soon.  More info to follow as it becomes available and I will have a sign up sheet for this event at the October meeting, also.

Thanks for your support and looking forward to finishing the year strong!

.

Be sure and put December 7th on your calendar for our annual

Christmas Party!

Digital / Social Media Article

Due to some scheduling difficulties and timing, earlier this year, our 50th Anniversary Historic Photo Shoot was postponed until the fall.  The date for the Photo Shoot is Saturday, October 26th.

If you have not rec’d your 50th Anniversary Cowtown Vettes commemorative Deck of Playing Cards, please attend the next Membership Meeting and see me.  Each primary member / household receives one deck of cards.  I’ll bring a few decks on the next cruise as well.  If you’d like an extra set (or two), see me as well, we did purchase extra decks of cards- these are $5 per deck.

We will have the Events, Socials and such in the next Slideshow @ Fred’s on October 2.  . The slideshow will continue to include some Corvette Trivia along with various other Corvette happenings around the country. Larry (our webmaster) does post a lower-resolution version online, on the CTV Website. Please provide any submissions for the slideshow to me no later than Sunday evening of the Membership Meeting week.

If you have been working on or updating your Corvette with new items …or if you have taken a trip in your Corvette and have some photos to share with membership, please send those to me and I’ll include them in the monthly slideshow.  Cowtown’s Microsoft O365 account allows us to use OneDrive, which makes it much easier for you to provide high-resolution photos from events for the web and/or monthly slideshow. If you would like to share photos, please take them in high-resolution; if not, they can’t be used on the big screen since they would show grainy / blurry.  These are needed by noon, the Monday before the Membership Meeting. If you have questions, please contact me and I’ll provide you with more information and the OneDrive link to share your photos – basically use the highest resolution option you can set on your camera or smartphone.

When you receive a CTV-ALL eMail blast, we would request that you please only reply to the originator when you are replying to a CTV-ALL email. When you opt to reply, simply select Reply on the email, then remove the CTV-All entry and replace it with the email address of the originator. If you are sending CTV-ALL emails, please include your email address in the body of the email so you have that address handy.

If you change your email or home address, Corvette, or other info – please drop an email to CTV-Membership@groups.io.

If you are not receiving CTV-ALL emails, please get with me so we can either add you or figure out why you aren’t receiving them.

More information on email distribution lists and the acceptable use of them can be found on our website.

Facebook – if you are on Facebook and not a “friend” of Cowtown Vettes, members cannot include you in tags at events; these tags show your non-club member friends all the fun we are having. Who knows, maybe some of you are in the witness protection program and don’t want to be tagged J If you are posting, be sure to tag Cowtown Vettes so it appears on our Facebook news feed.

CTV Sponsorship

For our 50th Anniversary, Cowtown could benefit and would like to partner with some good club sponsors (at any level); see below. Do you own or work somewhere that might be interested in becoming a sponsor?  if so, help promote them to become a Cowtown Vettes Sponsor? There are multiple levels depending on the depth of sponsorship desired. Do you have a candidate or any thoughts for a club sponsor? With club sponsors we can fund the financial needs of our club, but we also have opportunities for funding an event or socials; or event to print the Low-Down, etc. Not all sponsor levels have to be automotive related, so talk to us and share what you might be interested in sponsoring.

Note: We have a freshly painted Club Trailer – Certain Club Sponsors Levels will have their logo added to our club trailer, adding visibility beyond the flyer and our website.

.

We always have copies of Cowtown’s Sponsor Program at the Membership Meetings – see me. They are also available on our website, on the Sponsor page. If you need some in between meetings, contact either me or the Sponsorship Committee CTV-SC@groups.io

We continue tweaking the Member Guide that will help everyone to understand and promote Cowtown to potential sponsors. This guide will only be posted on the CTV Member’s Only website page – not to be distributed to non-CTV Individuals.

If you have questions or need clarifications, please reach out.

Officers and Chairpersons NEEDED

Cowtown Vettes needs some good candidates and nominations for the 51st Year of the club; and that time is just around the corner. Please consider stepping up to take on a role in Cowtown.

Officer Nominations take please for Governor @ the September Membership Meeting. Other Officer nominations take place at the October Meeting via write-in nomination forms. At the November Meeting, nominations are taken from the floor. There are certain requirements for some of the offices, which can be found in our Bylaws.

Chairpersons are volunteers, which are equally important, however, they do not require criteria like an Officer position. We would ask that you find something which you have expertise in or that interests you and step up. A couple of examples are the Social / Digital Media Chairperson – do you have an interest in promoting our club events and sharing the fun we have on cruises & socials, on Facebook?  We also need a Sponsor Chairperson that likes to reach out to businesses to find us some partners.

To find out more about any of these positions, go to our club website and select the Officer or Chairperson position you are considering – then click on the title. That will bring up a description to help you understand what they have entailed in the past.

Additionally, we have members that have served in these roles previously and they would be willing to share experiences and details around their time serving in that role.

Cowtown Cruiser

Robert Geyer - Cruiser/Equipment Chair

Hello cruisers,

October is upon us and that means it's a great time for cruising.  Put down the convertible top or stow the targa top in the trunk and take in the fresh air while enjoining your cool ride. And while enjoining your cruise remember to take some cool pictures of ' what you saw along the way' to display at our club meeting in November. Not much time left so get out and drive your beautiful Vettes.

Speaking of cruising,  I have a cruise to East Texas in October on Friday the 4th. We will meet up at the Kohls department store parking lot (next door to Hobby Lobby)at 8:00 am with drivers meeting at 8:15 and leaving around 8:30am. Please go to back of lot so not to impair customer parking. My route will take us south to Ennis and then cross country to Cedar Creek lake and on to Canton and the First Monday Trade Days.  If you are not interested in the Trade Days then come for the cruise, have lunch in Canton and return home at your leisur.

Also, BRCC is having their annual car show in Granbury on Saturday October 12th. If your attending, I will be leading a caravan for those going to the car show. We will meet up in Benbrook behind the Cracker Barrel restaurant and leave from there. It's a 30 minute drive so I want to leave by 7:30am. No need to confirm with me, just show up and be ready to go.

Remember that November's club meeting is the deadline for turning in both your Cruiser Points log sheet with cruiser points  pictures and your Cruiser 'what I saw along the way' pictures to me. As was last year I will be accepting both 4×6 a d 5×7 pictures for display. You can submit 3 pictures each. They will be on display for our club members to vote on during the meeting.

If any questions, you can always contact me by text at 817 819 6798 or email at geyerdrill@aol.com.

Your Cruiser Chairperson

Robert Geyer

Cathy Baker - Charities

Hello everyone –

As we head into the last quarter of the year, in my opinion – things are about to get busy! With the last autocross of the year completed, we now move on to our club’s infamous Car Show for October and then into the holiday season for November and December.  Charity is planning a “workday” at Tarrant County Food Bank in November (exact date TBA) and then both the Cook Children’s Hospital Christmas Event for the children as well as Toys for Tots activities in December.

As I am rounding out the year, I want to convey how rewarding my role as Charity Chairman has been for the last two years. I have enjoyed witnessing all the generosity and kindness that everyone has shown as club members.  From playing each month in the 50/50 drawing at the members meetings, to working as groups for the many volunteering hours we have completed and the positive representation of our club within the communities.

So, everyone, hang on to your hats – it is going to be fun!

More to follow ….

Meet the Most Exclusive Corvette in History

The Chevrolet Corvette ZL-1 highlights

The Legendary 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ZL-1 Convertible (youtube.com)

The ZL-1 was born out of the need to homologate the Corvette

to compete in Trans-Am racing.

The rules of the time required a minimum of 50 units produced to homologate a model.

Development of the ZL-1 was carried out in secret within Chevrolet...

without official management approval.

Features:

  • Monster engine: The ZL-1 equipped a 427-cubic-inch (7.0-litre) V8 engine that made you feel like a Formula 1 driver. This engine produced 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.
  • Transmission: A choice of a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission.
  • Brakes: Four-wheel ventilated disc brakes.
  • Suspension: Independent front and rear suspension with special shock absorbers.
  • Body: The body of the ZL-1 was fiberglass, with an aerodynamic design, including a rear spoiler.
  • Weight: The ZL-1 weighed nearly 3,000 pounds, making it a light car for its time.

  • Acceleration: The ZL-1 could accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds.
  • Top speed: Reached a top speed of over 186 mph.

Unveiling the Mystery:
The Story Behind the Iconic Corvette in Barbie

Let's rewind to 1953. Back then, car designs were all about chrome and curves. That's where the Corvette came in, a total rebel with a cause. It was the first ever mass-produced American sports car, a two-seater with a powerful engine that practically begged for a road trip with your best friend.

Forget the iconic Barbie convertible – this time, Barbie (played by Margot Robbie) and Ken (played by Ryan Gosling), cruise down the Malibu coast in a head-turning pink Chevrolet Corvette. This isn't just a flashy aesthetic choice – the Corvette's history reflects a surprising shift in Barbie's character.

So, how much would this slice of cinematic plastic fantastic cost you in real life? Buckle up,
because, for a classic C1 in good condition, you're looking at a
...
price tag somewhere between $100,000 and $500,000

Larry Schaapveld - NCCC Events
treesandquail@skywi.com

NEEDED: NCCC Event Chairperson(s)

Cowtown Vettes annual income, typically ~83% comes from NCCC Events, the remainder from the Annual Corvette Show.  Each year, Cowtown typically holds an Autocross in the Spring, along with a Corvette Scramble (has been at Fat Daddy’s) and another Autocross in the Fall.

Cowtown Vettes is looking for someone to head up the NCCC Event Chairperson for 2025, when Larry Schaapveld steps down.  This could even be a couple of members if one member wanted to chair the Autocross events (like the TCC events this year) and the other the Scramble type events (car show, funkhana, rallyes). Keep in mind that this chairperson does NOT have to be a racer or competitor to be great at this, we have had previous chairpersons that were not, and they did an awesome job. Do you have organizational or planning skills?  If so, you have most of the skills needed to be successful. There are numerous knowledgeable members that will always pitch in and help you any way they can.

We invite you to get involved and help Cowtown with these revenue generating events and consider this chairperson position. If you are interested and/or have questions about this chairperson, contact Larry Schaapveld, Doug or Glenda McMahan, or other members that have been around a while.

Ann and I attended the National Governor Meeting in St. Louis earlier this month. I sat in on the RCD meeting, where many competition rule changes and clarifications were discussed and voted on. If interested, the minutes of that meeting can be found online. One thing that we thought would be mentioned in the general meeting, but was not, was an increase in dues. Maybe next meeting…
