once in Silverton, we met up with our Off-Road Tour; Frank was one of our three guides (for our 3 vehicles)
a short ways out of Silverton, we spotted a young Moose getting a drink of water
then we spotted a beaver home
the old ore trolley still hangs above head when you go out of Silverton
then we came to our turn-off; time to head up the mountain
lots of streams coming down out of the mountains
more wildlife
our first stop along the climb to the summit was a historic house
the river behind the house was running swiftly
a three story house (guess a 2-1/2)
the photos right / right bottom were taken from the 3rd floor window Doug is standing at
The house had a great view ...with the river behind it
on up the road, Frank told us a story about this shack that he played at when he was a kid
Frank picked a handful of flowers and shared that this was the state flower of Colorado He gave each of the ladies in our vehicle one
time to head on upward on the mountain
Next stop was at a waterfall - Frank said if you looked closely, you could see a rainbow effect due to the large volume of minerals the water is exposed to
Hear and See the Waterfall
time to head on up the mountain
waterfalls were almost everywhere you looked
our final stop was at an old silver mine which also had a large volume of snow
great group photo time
you couldn't see much of the abandoned silver mine ...the tracks ran into the small hole under the snow - which had water coming from it
we had to turn around here since the snow was still 3+ feet deep over the road
we hurried down the mountain after the guide was warned of a storm brewing. Needless to say, we did not get back to town before the storm hit us.
Good thing they had canvas tops for the jeeps it did help a little - unless you were on Doug's side of the vehicle - rain was coming in diagonally
