Amarillo Wings n Wheels Extravaganza Show.
Saturday, May 7, 2005
We went to Amarillo for the Wings & Wheels Extravaganza.
What a show!!! Over 100 Corvettes plus vintage airplanes.
Friday night the Amarillo Area Corvette Club put on a
wonderful free Dogs/Burgers 'n Suds dinner in Hangar 4 for
the car show participants. Terry entered the Concours so he
got to set up his car Friday night in the Hangar and leave
it there until after the Saturday night BBQ.
There were about 30 cars in the Concours/Invitational Show
which included 5 Callaways (one previously owned by Carlos
Santana and another originally owned by Don Johnson and
appeared in the final episode of Miami Vice. They were all
owned by Larry Harris who also had his custom C5 power
hardtop convertible; C1; C2 and C4 ZR1 on display. I asked
why he didn't have a C3 and he said he did, but they didn't
ask him to bring it! Saturday was a beautiful day for the
Vintage War Planes Air Show and Corvette Parades.
All cars in the show, whether Concours, or Show-n-Shine were
judged by the AACC members. The competition was very close.
Terry took 2nd Place in his class behind another C5 with
just a little more chrome than Terry has. It could have gone
either way.
The AACC people are such wonderful hosts and treated us very
well. We even received the award for most miles DRIVEN to
the show, so we had our hotel compensated for the two
nights!
