Cook Children’s Medical Center (Child Life Group - children’s needs)

Cook Children’s Medical Center is a private, nonprofit hospital that relies on the generosity of the community for continued success. The hospital offers children access to nationally recognized programs in the treatment of cancer and blood disorders, heart defects and respiratory ailments. We provide necessary medical care to children, regardless of a parent's ability to pay.  Many children and families arrive at Cooks under emergency situations and are unprepared or unable to meet the needs of an extended stay.  The Child Life Group provides clothes, toys or other needs for the patient and family.  They are also VERY interested in a small number of cars to come “show” for the patients in their front U-Turn. This has been a very big success for the teenage boys.

National Kidney Foundation Walk

The National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Walk is a non-competitive walk focusing on education and prevention of kidney and urinary tract diseases, and awareness of the need for organ donation. The Kidney Walk presents an occasion for dialysis patients, organ transplant recipients, donor families, living donors, the medical and business communities, and the general public to celebrate life and create lasting community advocacy and long-term support for the Foundation's mission.

While raising funds for the National Kidney Foundation's programs and services, the Kidney Walk provides an opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to participate in an inspiring, community-based event.

Kidney Walks are held all over the country from early spring to late fall. Refer to the Kidney Walk schedule to find out if there is a Kidney Walk in your area.

A minimum of 25% supports ground-breaking breast cancer research, awards, education and conferences around the world.  COMMENT: Club members and friends afflicted (both survivors and not).

Tarrant Area Food Bank

We are based in Fort Worth to collect and redistribute food to our area's needy and poor. All of our programs are designed with this philosophy in mind. We believe that these individuals and families need help pulling themselves back up so that they can again become contributors to our community and society as a whole.  We receive NO federal or state funding. In our battle against hunger, we have distributed over seventeen and one-half million (17,500,000) pounds of food to more than 800,000 needy families throughout Tarrant and the surrounding counties in 1998 alone. Our Emergency Food Assistance Program sees lines of 200 to 300 families daily, and the numbers grow steadily. It is our mission to secure food for these individuals.

June 12, 2008 - CTV Volunteer night at the Tarrant Area Food Bank 6-9pm  MAP

We had a great time at the Tarrant Area Food Bank on Thursday, June 12th! We sorted cans and condiments and added lots of other goodies to each box to get the required weight of 40 pounds per box. We packaged over 9000 pounds of food! We were dismissed at 8:15 which left us time to drive around the corner to the Mexican Inn for some adult beverages! :-)

Thanks to these folks for supporting this event: Jan Brefczynski, Doc Lambert, Barb Greenfeder, James & Kim West, Walt & Sharon Zschirnt, Donna & Fred Rosett, Karen & Don Fowler, Candy Lowery, Donn Beck, Sylvia & Larry Hoaldridge, Carol Savage and Jane and Bill Buehler.

For anyone who missed out on the fun, I'll be scheduling another time to volunteer at the food bank a little later in the year!
