TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY - OUR MEMBERS WORKING - PAGE 2 OF 2

Saturday, April 6, 2006

Ft Worth, TX

Photos were provided by Carl Williams - taken Saturday

Commentary by Scott Wheeler, our Veteran Insider and Event Worker

The winner, Kurt Busch #39, just after crossing the finish line

Kurt Busch parks his car in the grass, gets out, and will do a snow angel (grass angel?). Not a popular win; you could hear a lot of booing. Notice that you can still see some smoke in the air from his post race burn out

Kurt Busch in Victory Circle. Notice the new media building (“Time Warner Cable”) that adjoins Victory Circle.

It’s my understanding that the local stations are no longer allowed down in the pits to film; they must shoot from the media building. See the porch on the left side of the building (red rail with stars).

Also notice the new “Wall of Champions” below the red railing

The winning car leaving Victory Circle. CTV’s Cliff Griffith is manning the gate

Kurt Busch’s crew pushing the car back to the garage for post race tech inspection

Goodyear’s rig on lower pit road (in front of the competitor RV lot & across from the Infield Security trailer). This is Goodyear’s ‘office’ for the traveling group. The teams come to the office to settle up their tire usage (and bills?) for the weekend Another Goodyear truck on lower pit road. This one probably hauls tires. (There’s a bunch of unmarked trucks that haul tires also).

The North Pit Road Security crew got invited to one group of firefighters’ campsites for supper and beverages on Saturday night.

As always, Scott does his best to comply with the beverage hospitality.

Dinner was brisket, fajitas and homemade Mexican rice.

And we had bacon-wrapped jalapeņo poppers. Those fire fighters know how to cook!

Notice that this is no Coleman stove; they’ve got a portable outdoor kitchen complete with a running water sink

Firefighters and part of the North Pit Road Security crew.

CTV folk from the latter that are pictured are Scott (still seated after much hospitality), Cliff (with sunglasses to protect his hat) and Sharon Zschirnt

Dennis Lugo (red shirt) is our new supervisor. (Scott’s *still* seated.)

CTV folks there from the North Pit Road crew were Sharon, Scott, Cliff and Carl Williams.

Dennis Lugo and Harvey Lewis, a firefighter from Tulsa.

Some other firefighters invited us to their tent where they were partying with live music and even more food.

The tent had a resident dog (are those his smokes?).

THE END
