On the 4th session, 2nd to the last lap, on the backside
of the tracking nearing the South Carousel, I smelled
anti-freeze and headed to the pits - not knowing how bad
it was.
After opening the hood, anti-freeze / water were
everywhere, dripping off the underside of the hood and
still spewing. Bob, Paul, Kevin, Red and others
gathered around, trying to help identify where the leak
was. After turning off the engine, it was located
under the throttle body, on the coolant bi-pass hose - a
1" split lengthwise in the hose. We cut the split
section of the hose off and reconnected it to the
throttle body, only to find Paul's fears of a soaked
Opti-spark (distributor) which kept it from starting
again.
Kevin unloaded his C5 from their trailer, leaving it
outside of TMS, offering to haul our Vette wherever we
wanted. Bob & Red both offered their houses while
Paul said he would tear the car apart and replace the
Opti-spark on his day off Monday.
Monday evening, after Bob located the best price on the
new parts, I ran by and picked them up, along with new
plugs and plug wires. Starting around 5pm, we
completed the rebuild in the 10pm timeframe, with our C4
running and back on the road - amazing and totally
impossible in that timeframe without these great friends
who rolled-up their sleeves and jumped into the grease
and breaking fingernails.
I have known for over the 30 years
of Corvette Ownership, that Corvette Owners are
typically a great and special group of people, ones that
keep make you part of their family - this was proven SO
TRUE, this past weekend
With all the support, kindness,
the going-over-and-above that our friends / Corvette
family did since last Saturday, our gratitude and
appreciation for you as friends can't find the correct
and appropriate words to express it. |
